How can a tire be repaired?

The legal basis for the repair of tubeless tires is provided by §36 StVZO (BMV/StVZO 13/36) .

In 2000, the legislature issued new guidelines for the Federal Republic of Germany

They describe whether a tire can be repaired and how the tire should be repaired. The guideline is used throughout Europe to assess tire damage and repair it correctly.

General Requirements

  • Each tire must be removed from the rim prior to repair to analyze the damage and carry out the repair . Exceptions are tires
which show damage which is clearly recognizable as purely external damage to the tire and can be repaired from the outside without dismantling, as well as tires on commercial vehicles with a maximum speed of no more than 40 km/h determined by the design
  • Before the repair, the tire must be examined to determine whether it is worth repairing
  • Depending on the type of damage , only suitable repair materials should be used in accordance with the instructions of the manufacturer of these repair materials
  • Damage to tires that have been treated with roadside assistance cannot be repaired.
  • Inserting a tube without repairing the tire damage is not permitted
